Cheeky Cherries

In a sun-drenched orchard, two cherries dangled side by side, their stems tangled together like tiny hands clasped in a secret handshake. They had been inseparable since they were just blossoms, and as they ripened into a deep, rich red, they made a pact: whatever happened, they would stick together.

One afternoon, a gentle breeze whispered through the trees, and a hand reached up, plucking them from their branch. The cherries held their breath, still clinging to each other as they were placed in a woven basket among dozens of others.

They were jostled and tumbled, rolling this way and that, but no matter what, their stems stayed knotted tight. Even when they were tipped into a kitchen bowl, washed under cool water, and nearly picked apart by curious fingers, they remained together.

Then came the moment of truth. A little girl reached for one of them. The cherries braced themselves—until she stopped, noticing their entwined stems. With a smile, she lifted them both and held them up to the light.

“These ones belong together,” she said, and instead of eating them, she set them gently on the windowsill, letting the golden afternoon sun warm their shiny red skins.

And so, the cherries stayed side by side, watching the world go by, forever bound by their promise and the magic of being chosen together.
